The Zonules of Zinn are cord-like structures that focus the crystalline lens. They form a ring of fibrous strands connecting the ciliary body with the lens. The zonules hold the lens in place and function to change the focusing power of the eye by contraction and relaxation of the ciliary muscle. This enables one to see clearly at far as well as near. (This process is called accommodation.)

These suspensory ligaments are named after Johann Gottfried Zinn, an anatomist and botanist who lived in Europe in the 18th century. Interestingly, Zinn was initially the director of the Botanic garden of the University of Göttingen before becoming a professor in the University's medical faculty.
